Tax Services Manager
Jay is the Tax Services Manager for Shelton Financial Group. He thrives on helping clients with an integrated approach to tax planning, tax preparation, and investment management with the advisors at SFG. Regarding taxation, one of Jay’s favorite reference court case quotes is Gregory v. Helvering, 293 U.S. 465 (1935), “Anyone may so arrange his affairs that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which will best pay the Treasury; there is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes.”. Jay believes a good citizen pays timely taxes according to the tax law, no more and no less. He adheres to the highest ethical standards when representing clients.
Jay earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting from Liberty University, and Masters in Business Administration from Auburn University. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Certified Public Accountant.
Jay has held a variety of roles in corporate finance and manufacturing operations, including with Alcoa and Martin Marietta. There he enjoyed leading high-performance teams as much as the technical aspects of his challenging positions. He has also participated in smaller private startup ventures, including one as an entrepreneur and founding member where he helped successfully navigate the Company through the financial crisis of 2008-2009. Roles have included Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Finance, and Managing Director. Throughout, he has continued with executive education through Wharton, the International Institute for Management Development, and others.
Jay followed several generations of family into the military, serving as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army, which remains to this day a foundational part of his character.
Jay resides in Fort Wayne with his wife and son. Outside of work, Jay enjoys running, hiking, reading, learning, and anything with family and church.
