Financial advising is in my blood. Although my father has been in the financial services industry most of my life and set an incredible example for me, it wasn’t until I got firsthand experience in the industry that I caught the finance bug. Witnessing the confidence clients felt from working with an advisor with whom they had a personal relationship and whom they could trust is what made me fall in love with the idea of serving people as a financial advisor, helping them steward their money responsibly and work toward financial freedom.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Taylor University. In the summer between my junior and senior years, I interned at both a mergers and acquisitions firm and Shelton Financial Group (SFG). This pivotal experience solidified my path to becoming a financial advisor. I began working as a relationship manager at SFG after graduation while also working on an MBA in Personal Financial Planning from Indiana Wesleyan University, which I am on track to complete in 2020.
My Role Today
Now, I work as a financial advisor, spending my days providing faith-based, or biblically responsible, investment and financial planning strategies for business professionals focused on preparing for retirement. Our processes and retirement lifestyle plan help them live their one best financial life.
Both before and during college, I had the privilege of traveling overseas for a variety of mission trips. I spent some time in Ghana, West Africa, for leadership training as well as in South Africa for sports ministry. I also served in a Syrian refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesvos. These experiences helped form some of my core values of ministry and missions and drove home the importance of aligning your finances with your values, which is something I help my clients do through our One Life Formula process.
I am also passionate about helping the next generation grow and protect their wealth. I work with younger, high-income investors or those likely to inherit wealth through the Genesis program. Through private meetings and educational workshops, I help them build a solid foundation of healthy money habits and practices.
Hurdles And Triumphs
I love my job and can’t wait to continue building relationships with my clients and better serving their financial needs. That being said, no job is perfect! Finances bring up plenty of emotions and it can be difficult to help clients approach financial planning from a healthy perspective, leaving biases and history at the door. Challenges aside, there is nothing more fulfilling than building a plan for a client that answers questions and concerns they’ve always had. When a client can feel confident about when to retire, how much money they need to save, or how to manage risk, for example, then I know I’ve done my job!
I work hard every day because I believe that God has gifted me with talents and a desire to help others manage their finances well. I’m thankful beyond words that this is what I get to do for a living.
