Meet Our Team Member: Matt Fry

I like to joke that my entry into the financial industry was all thanks to a self-fulfilling prophecy! When I was in high school, I wrote a report about becoming a financial advisor when I was older, so I guess you could say I always knew the road I would take. In all seriousness, though, I’ve always had an interest in investments and financial planning, and once I realized that I could use that passion to help people pursue their financial goals and experience peace of mind, it was a no-brainer!

First Career Steps

With a clear goal in front of me, I earned a bachelor’s degree in business finance and management from Indiana University – Fort Wayne. Fun side note: While I will never pretend to be Tiger Woods, I was captain of my school’s men’s golf team, where I proudly earned the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award (that’s my claim to fame). Immediately after graduating, I started working for Leman Financial Advisors as a financial consultant, then for Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. After almost 10 years of hands-on experience and after earning the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) credential, I was ready to make a shift and use my skills to build long-lasting relationships with my clients and walk beside them as they worked toward their goals. That led me right to Shelton Financial Group.

What I Do Now

Today, I am proud to be a financial advisor at Shelton Financial Group, helping teachers and manufacturing professionals create a customized road map for their financial lives. I love serving working-class families who desire comprehensive financial planning that will help maximize their hard-earned money and make the best of their financial situation. Our motto is “Work hard, plan smart, live well,” and I spend my days helping deserving people do just that.

My clients are like family. They know that I care deeply for them, their families, and their financial goals. That’s why, when something unexpected happens in their lives, like a job loss, the death of a family member, a medical problem, or a market crash, I feel their pain. But on the flip side, that close connection with my clients is what brings most celebratory days as well! When a client reaches a financial goal or hits a milestone, whether that’s early retirement, paying off their mortgage, or going on a dream vacation, seeing their joy reminds me why I do what I do. It’s unbelievably fulfilling to play this role in their lives and see my clients overcome challenges and thrive.

It’s easy to stay motivated to work hard at my profession. All I need to do is look at the faces of those I care about: my wife and sons, my parents, my co-workers, and my clients. They all put a tremendous amount of trust and confidence in me and I don’t take that privilege lightly. I work hard to make sure I don’t let any of them down!
