Meet Our Team Member: Al Lindsten

By Al Lindsten

Have you ever had a pivotal life moment where the path ahead swiftly changed and new opportunities became clear? My hand is raised over here. What started with a seemingly mundane financial decision my wife and I needed to make turned into an unexpected career change. Here’s what happened.

The Turning Point

After earning my bachelor’s degree in economics from Wheaton College, I started what turned out to be a fulfilling three-decade career with General Electric in operations management and financial analysis. During these years, I completed an MBA in finance and accounting from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and graduated from GE’s Financial Management Program.

My wife and I had two children during this time and we knew we needed to fund their future college expenses. The problem was, we had differing opinions on how to do this. We decided to bring in a third party and sought advice from an independent financial planner. I got more than I bargained for out of that conversation! His advice was so helpful and I saw the incredible value his work provided for people. I couldn’t shake the idea that this might be something I wanted to pursue. I already had a financial foundation, with my decades of experience in corporate finance, but I wanted to help people make good financial decisions and find financial success instead of helping a corporation improve their profits. I got right to work, networking with people in the industry and earning the licenses and credentials to provide financial advice, eventually becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) practitioner.

Finally, in 2007, I started working full-time as a financial advisor at Shelton Financial Group and I’ve never looked back!

What My Days Look Like Now

Now, I get to spend my time helping business executives and professionals who are approaching retirement prepare for their financial future and pursue their goals and dreams. There’s just nothing more fulfilling than helping my clients find the confidence to look to their future with hope because they know there is a plan in place, a plan that allows them to live the life they desire and do what they want to do.
