How much do I need to retire with confidence?

This is the number one question we get from new clients. The truth is, you work hard your whole life so that you can live well in retirement. The part that can be difficult is that middle section…planning smart. How do you guard your financial future when there is so much uncertainty in the world?

That’s just one of the difficulties that inevitably arise. Other common questions are:

  • When do you take social security?
  • How early can you retire without running out of money down the road?
  • How do you choose investments that fit both your lifestyle and your goals?

These are not one-size-fits-all questions, and we are not a one-size-fits-all firm. At Shelton Financial, we ask tough questions and expect honest answers so that we can help you reach your financial goals.

Where to start?

Most people have no idea how much they’re spending every month so that’s where we start. We also factor in when you would like to retire and how much you think you will need yearly after that. Of course, inflation, and an assumed rate of return are factored in, as well as some unexpected expenses. All of these things together tell us how long it will take to fill your retirement “bucket” and we help to get you there as soon as possible. Our unique “scorecard” system reveals how you balance risk and reward, and from there we devise a plan tailor-made for you.

What are the most important things to consider?

  1. Income Needs

If real estate is about location, location, location, then retirement is about income, income, income. It’s one thing to plan to make your money last until you’re 80, but, for our clients, we use a life-expectancy of 90 to make sure you are cared for even if you live longer than the average life expectancy.

  2. Personal and Financial Objectives

Over the past 27 years, we have helped more than 600 households manage their wealth through smart and well-thought-out financial planning. Actually, helping you invest your money is the easy part. Fully understanding your true investment objective can be the hardest. That’s why we spend the time that’s necessary to get to know you. We aren’t just selling a product with a high commission rate that may or may not work for you, because that’s not who we are. In fact, we use a fee-based system, so costs are always up front.

  3. Finding a good fit

Trust is a key factor when choosing a financial advisor. Shelton Financial Group is an independent, locally owned, community and faith-based financial planning firm. But the most important part of our professional service isn’t what we say, it’s what we do, and who we are. It’s our proprietary process which includes counseling, coaching, educating, listening, and caring.

You only have one life to live, make sure you plan smart so you can live well. At Shelton Financial, we help you live your dream today by creating a more secure tomorrow.
